WHERE WE COME FROM
OUR HISTORY
Founded in 1985, by father/son duo, Kermit and Nick Wiley, United Hydraulics, Inc. began in a 32’ x 42’ garage in Princeton, WV. Focusing only on hydraulic cylinders, we served industries like coal mining, refuse, pulp and paper, and heavy equipment. Eventually running out of room, we moved to Rich Creek, VA in 2001 and renamed ourselves to United Industrial Services, Inc. after adding the electric motor department.
United has continued to grow since 2001, and now we are a full-service, comprehensive shop for rebuilds/reconstruction of industrial electric motors/generators, gearboxes, hydraulic cylinders, actuators, and much more. We are home to three repair facilities, five operating warehouses, and a sales force that operates from Maryland to Alabama, west to Missouri, and everywhere in between.
Several decades later and another generation added, we are still a family-owned and operated business. We continue to look forward to new ways to serve our customers!
The World in 1985
- Gas cost $1.20
- A gallon of milk cost $2.20, bacon was $1.89/lb, and a dozen eggs were $0.80
- A Ford F150 base price started at $8,397
- Shoulder pads and parachute pants were popular
- Michael Jordan was named “Rookie of the Year”
- The top three grossing films were: Back to the Future, Rambo: First Blood Part II, and Rocky IV
While plenty has changed since 1985, we are still serving customers (although we are no longer wearing parachute pants to do it).
